Rana was born on December 22, 2001, in Ghewara village near the Delhi-Haryana border. At the age of ten, he started learning to play cricket with the help of his father Pradeep Rana. His father was a former hammer thrower and weightlifter in the CRPF. Rana studied at Ganga International School, where coach Shravan Kumar spotted his talent and gave him proper cricket training.
Harshit Rana : Domestic Career
In February 2022, he joined Kolkata Knight Riders after being selected in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. On April 28, 2022, he played his first T20 match for Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2022 IPL.
In the quarter-finals of the 2023 Duleep Trophy, he scored his first first-class century. Playing for North Zone, he remained unbeaten on 122 runs off just 86 balls. In the 2024 Indian Premier League, he performed very well with the ball. He took 19 wickets in 13 matches and became the joint fourth highest wicket-taker in the tournament at an average of 20.16.

Rana made his international debut in the first Test match of the 2024–25 Border–Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Perth on 22 November 2024. He made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut against England in Pune on 31 January 2025, where he came on as a concussion substitute for Shivam Dube during the match.
Rana made his One Day International (ODI) debut against England on 6 February 2025, in which he took 3 wickets for 53 runs. He was selected in India’s 15-man squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy after Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out due to injury.
